The Ebbs and Flows
Sometimes we push for the things we want, or think we want.
We hold out for the perfect idea that if we get this, then we will be exactly where we need to be.
From this I learned:
We get what we need in life
In order to be with the flow and let life guide you, you must surrender
In the end, everything works out
If we know this from the trial we call life, why does it feel so foreign when we face it again? These are the ebbs and flows, the decline and regrowth we face through the phases of our life. When you encounter a dilemma, remember what you know, recognize the things you can change and know the difference from the ones you cannot change.
It’s not easy to stay patient in these predicaments.
It’s not ideal to ever put your energy into these circumstances. But when you are in them the last thing you want to do is make it worse by putting more pressure on yourself. When you stress, your biography starts to become confused, in flight or fight and truly drained. Why cause more harm to yourself when you’re already in a difficult situation? Your biography in turn becomes your biology, which impacts the way you feel internally and the way you react to the external world.
Be patient with yourself, be mindful of your situation and have forgiveness for the predicament you’re in. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it - you owe it to yourself to be healthy and at peace even if your situation isn’t the best.
Try this breathing technique when you need a few minutes to look inward and find clarity.
Laying down or sitting in a comfortable position place one hand over your heart and the other on your stomach.
Close your eyes and breathe normally. Notice your belly fill up with air and then fall. Pay attention to the movement and rhythm of your body - look inward. Take a few more rounds of breath then bring your awareness to your heart. Wish yourself kindness, love and forgiveness before attentively filling your chest up with air then relaxing - relax on purpose. Do this a few times to look inward and listen to your body and soul.
Breathe normally and let your awareness bring to mind a mantra. You can choose one you like or use this one: “Please help grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
Namaste.
